Not just a continuously moving hours disc. Next to that it has a quick set function by pushing the crown. For those who don't know, Lorus is a brand owned by Seiko. Seiko invented this luminous technique, because the luminous paints that were used back then were from very bad quality or contained radioactive materials. Lumibrite is a combination of three non-radioactive chemical elements that cause the paint to shine for several hours after exposing it to light for just a few seconds. New week, new watches! Starting off with this 18k gold Gino Polli in Christmas style. I don't need to talk about the piece itself so much, as it is quite a simple quartz. The 18k gold part, however, is much more interesting, because as you can see the whole watch is in gold. That must mean this watch costs a lot of money, right? Well, this watch is electroplated. That means there is real 18k gold used for the watch, but not as much as you might think. Elctroplating is a process in which a very thin layer of gold is applied to the full surface of the watch using electricity. That's how you make a full gold (surface) watch affordable. A bit of a different watch today, this Carvel double date. The brand itself isn't really worth mentioning when talking about vintage watches. The quartz movement though, a Shiojiri VX3H is quite a great piece. These movements are being made in the same factory as where the spring drive pieces of Grand Seiko are produced as well. It's a Seiko owned factory, so that means quality!🌅

A squared Sekonda this time. The British brand manufactured its watches in the Soviet Union where they also supported the export of watchbrands such as Poljot and Raketa. Two years after the Soviet Union broke up in 1991 the brand moved its production to Hong Kong and that's where this piece is made. So a British watch with Russian roots and Asian perfection. Timex started releasing quartz watches in 1979 after losing around 24.000 employees of workforce due to the quartz crisis. For a few years they were having quite some trouble, but around 1985 they started turning the tide, resulting in a way better quality and accuracy for their quartz watches. For this piece, it's hard to tell how old it exactly is. Timex has been making the Easy Reader for several decades and almost nothing has changed during this period.
